Our Physical Education Program

Mrs. Paula Hancock has been teaching P.E.for 20 years. Mr. Chad Thompson has been teaching for 13 years. The students of AES are provided with a planned Physical Education program. The students will participate in a wide variety of activities that require teamwork, cooperation, communication, and trust. It is our goal for each child to have fun and to get better. Physical Education is an important class. It benefits each child in so many wonderful ways (physically, socially, mentally, etc.) We want each child to try his best and learn to have a good, positive attitude.

In addition to our regular activities and skills that we practice, we will also do fitness testing once a year. The five areas of testing are: pull-ups (upper body strength), sit-ups (core strength), sit and reach (flexibility), mile run (endurance), and the shuttle run (quickness). There are two levels of acheivment: the National Standards and the Presidential Standards. If the students acheive the scores according to their age in every category they will be honored on awards day and they will receive a Got Fit T-shirt or day pack. The activities we do in class can help them improve their scores, but they can also practice at home as well. The National and Presidential Standards can be found at the bottom of the P.E. home page.
