  The mission of the McNairy County Schools Transition Program is to provide students with learning activities that will prepare them for post-secondary employment, education, and job training experiences that will lead to a productive and fulfilling adult life.

What Are Transition Services?

  Transition is a coordinated set of activities that prepare students for successful post-secondary living.  Transition planning assists students with disabilities to prepare for his/her future in many areas including:

When Does Transition Begin?

Focused transition planning begins at age 14, however preparing for a successful transition actually begins the moment a student starts school. 

Who Is Involved With Transition?

Successful transition is a collaborative effort involving various people such as the student, parents/family members, school staff, and various outside agency personnel.  These individuals work together to develop the student's transition plan, which is a part of the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

 

Our Services: 

Some of the various services, programs, and activities available through the Transition Program include:

  • Career assessments to help students discover their interests/skills.
  • Career exploration opportunities, including online research, field trips, guest speakers, and career fairs.
  • Dual enrollment opportunities for students to "jump start" their post-secondary training.
  • Job shadowing and Work-Based learning experiences
  • Collaborate with local agencies, businesses, and industries that may serve or employ students after high school.
  • Provide job readiness skills, including job applications, resumes, and mock interviews
  • Assist students in setting post-secondary goals and providing guidance to help them reach their goals.
  • Provide resources to students, parents, teachers and the community to enable student success.
  • Provide training in Independent and Community Living skills.
  • Establish partnerships with local agencies to provide needed services for students.
  • Maintain webpage as resource for Transition information
  • Presentations about Transition needs to school staff, parents, community groups, and students.

   Our Goals  

  • Plan/execute community-based experiences to acquaint students with employment and educational opportunities in community
  •   Help middle school/high school students set career goals and develop transition plans for post-secondary education, employment, and/or job training.
  •   C ollaborate with students, families, and  teachers on transitioning students into post-secondary living.
  •   Maintain current list of business and industries that will be resources for employment and work-based learning experiences.
  •   Assist students in job preparation by helping the students complete job applications, resumes, letters of interest, and conducting mock interviews.
  •   Maintain list of post-secondary institutions where students can apply for admission and receive post-secondary training.
  •   Maintain current data on student's interest and goals for post-secondary activities.
  •   Present information about transitioning students to various target groups (students, parents, business/industry, teachers, etc.)
