KidsClick 
Put together by librarians for kids, the database, as of July, 1998, contained about 2600 records. Well organized and easy to use, though not as thorough as the others. Not a search engine but a compendium of great sites.

First Gov for Kids

KiderStart is a family-friendly portal with a searchable directory of web sites for both parents and children. This is a good site for the family that wants to surf together, but there are probably better sites for students who need information for school work.

Spam Threatens Revenue, Kids

47% of children between the ages of 7 and 18 have received spam for x-rated sites, and 21% report reading their spam e-mail. Twenty-two percent say that their parents have never discussed spam with them. Study by Symantec in June of 2003.
