The new Destiny software for the county libraries is here and up and running following Spring Break!!

Locate the new search- the- catalogs -options by first going to the main page of the McNairy County Board of Education at www.mcnairy.org . Next, find "Home" on the left-hand side of that home page. Then, under "Home" locate and click on "Destiny Library".

You will reach a "Welcome to McNairy County School District" page. Click on Selmer Middle School (you may add this page to your favorites by clicking on the book icon to the right of the Selmer Middle School name).

You are now at the Selmer Middle School's catalog of books and materials.

Search the catalog by either using the visual/graphic "Destiny Quest", or exit Destiny Quest and search using "Library Search" which offers: Basic, Power, Visual, Copy Categories, or Call Number options.

If you have questions, in Library Search click on either the "How do I... " , or the [?]. In Destiny Quest, click on the (?).

However you search, have fun!!

Note: You must have an updated browser to use the visual/graphic Destiny Quest. Internet Explorer users will need version 7.0 or greater. Mozilla Firefox users will need version 2.0 or greater. If you are using a computer with an operating system older than XP you will not be able to use IE 7 so you will have to use Mozilla Firefox. Here's a link where you can download it.

The library started off the year ready to Star Test and begin Accelerated Reading on the first day of school!

All fifth graders will receive OPAC (Card catalog on computer) instruction at a later date.

We will receive approximately 100 new books this fall if our budget remains consistent. The majority of the books will be Accelerated Reader books and curriculum support books.

The Book Fair will be held on November 2-6, 2009. Alison Shackelford will be the chairperson for the book fair.  Many parents volunteer to help and all volunteers are greatly appreciated!! We really have a good time with our volunteers as well as having a successful Book Fair. We depend on Book Fair profits to order extras for the library. In the past, we have purchased two classroom sets of thesaurus and dictionaries on carts, two new sets of World Book Encyclopedias, Accelerated Reader books and tests, and have paid for our yearly software support of our circulation and cataloging system. This year we will be ordering AR books which have been lost in the past, but we still have the AR tests for these lost books.

Every year at Selmer Middle School we are thankful to Shackleford Funeral Directors for supplying our library with magazine subscriptions. Without Shacklford's generosity, this service to students and teachers would be unavailable. Thank you, Shackleford, so much for your continual assistance for our Selmer Middle School students and teachers!

Thanks for all the teacher and student cooperation in getting off to a great start this school year!
